Ruben Tan has severe brain damage after constantly hitting himself whenever he faces problems in his programming projects, and thus have a weird outlook on life which prevents him from being trapped in the surface of lies.

It’s October! Month of fun! Well I’m not just talking about Halloween but also the month of balance, the month of the Libra and the month of MAI BATHDAY!

Ok, birthdays are a little overrated. According to the buddhists, it’s a bad day. We’re born into suffering and the whole reason we’re here is because we couldn’t attain enlightenment in our past life and we here trying again. According to the christians it’s a good thing though, because it is a gift of God. On second thought, I think the buddhists are the only one who thinks birthdays are bad.

To me, I’ve had good ones and bad ones.

Age 17

I was in Form 5 by then, and I didn’t expect my class mates would remember. We decided to celebrate in a nearby restaurant, which was a great thing because the restaurant was a nice cozy place, not too many people and had some great sound systems. It had a stage too, for hired singers to sing from.

We had a great time there, my friend played some songs and we sang together. It was simple, and fun.

Age 21

Girlfriend broke up with me on that day. Forgot what the argument was about but I spent the rest of the night feeling miserable for myself. Not a good one.

Age 24

Can’t believe it was only last year. Began with my girlfriend taking me to a watch shop and then gave me a surprise gift – a nice seiko watch that she helped me choose. Didn’t saw that one coming. After that, got together with my friends and had a good one.

Totally one-upped all my previous birthdays.

Present

I’m not sure what’s going to happen this year, but I’m determined not to wait for it to happen. 10 more days. I’ve been spending years after years hoping for people to celebrate it for me, but perhaps I’ve forgotten something important. I should celebrate my birthday this year with myself. Just me alone, my own present and my own space.

I know that if you’re reading this you might misunderstand, but I believe sometimes birthdays are very personal and for this year I want to spend it with the person that I’ve neglected for so many years.

Here’s how it’s going to happen: a nice secluded place, like Genting or something, a nice bottle of whiskey, a shot glass, and a present for myself. And lots of time to reflect. To really figure out what’s been happening for so many years.

10 more days. I can’t wait :D .
