Recently there’s quite a few Hollywood interests in the Chinese or Asian cultures, with mega-budget films like Battle For Red Cliffs, Forbidden Kingdom and Geisha hitting the big screen. Well okay, Battle for Red Cliffs isn’t exactly from Hollywood, and Forbidden Kingdom isn’t really about Chinese culture, but for generalization’s sake and my own dignity as an amateur movie reviewer let’s not be too anal on those facts shall we?

I recently watched the movie Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon - which isn’t exactly accurate seeing that the literal translation of the title suggests a dying dragon rather than a resurrected one - and found that while it is an enjoyable movie set in one of my most favorite eras of Chinese history, it is a horribly written albeit well executed piece that probably will be forgotten as one of those films that could have made it big but didn’t.

It’s finally here. Tomorrow 9AM I’ll be heading towards Los Angelos, and then to San Francisco. I woke up with a daze today, a bittersweet feeling even though it’s just gonna be only one month. All the while I thought I am pretty emotionally independent, and that I would be 100% cherishing this trip but no, as I woke up this morning I felt like hugging my girl tightly and tell her how much I’ll be missing her everyday.

It is said that you will only know your value to somebody when you leave them, and after being together for so long with her I didn’t expect myself to be so attached to her at all. It’s like I’m so used to seeing her around me that to part for one month becomes something that I need to get used to.

Just today I read a piece of news in The Shit… I mean, The Star that sent my blood boiling. Here’s the fucked up piece of news:

KUALA LUMPUR: A seminar on Syariah Law review wants non-Muslims found committing khalwat (close proximity) with Muslims to also be held liable.

This was among the proposals made at the two-day seminar organised by the Islamic Institute of Understanding Malaysia (Ikim) and the Syariah Judiciary Department Malaysia.

Syariah Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Mohd Asri Abdullah said the seminar had proposed that non-Muslims committing khalwat with Muslims should also be sentenced accordingly, but in the civil courts.

“We don’t have the jurisdiction to sentence non-Muslims committing khalwat with Muslims,” he told reporters after closing the seminar on behalf of department director-general Datuk Ibrahim Lembut at Ikim here today.

“The Muslims can be sentenced in Syariah courts, and the non-Muslim partners can probably be sentenced in the civil courts, to be fair to both parties.” - READ THE REST

Whoa. Hold on a second. Didn’t the Prime Minister, or was it Najib that said our country is as secular as ever? Didn’t BN just said that we should not vote for PAS because they will turn Malaysia into an Islamic country complete with Islamic laws and so forth?

And after all that hoo-ha, suddenly Non-Muslims are to be prosecuted for being close to Muslims. Right, so much for secularism. This is where the denial of the BN 2/3 majority works wonders. In order for this rule to be passed, an amendment has to be made in the constitution to allow the Syariah Court such powers. But WAIT! There’s PAS in the opposition! Will they support this movement? BN after all, only needs 8 more votes to make it to 2/3 majority.

Here’s what I predict will happen. Somewhere down the line, BN will propose an Islamic amendment that will clearly irk all non-muslims but will sound appetizing to PAS. And they will get PAS to agree to it, and if PAS does, this will probably send DAP into furious fits and probably splinter the Pakatan Rakyat.

Dirty eh? Well, BN plays dirty tricks, so you can’t exactly expect them to put up a good, clean debate on anything. They’re only good at rigging polls and flinging d-d-d-d-d-d-d-dirt and st-st-st-st-st-stuttering when talking to international media.

Wait… Taurens? Heh, it gets better. Here’s the description:

In the old Confederacy, Terran marines were mostly criminals or rebels who had undergone mandatory neural resocialization. Freed from any previous allegiances or ideologies, these fearless soldiers stood ready to defend Confederate interests with their lives but exhibited an annoying tendency toward petty larceny, vandalism, and occasional cannibalism. Confederate authorities were unable to requisition enough reliable troopers in this way, and eventually recruiters turned to a new source of fresh meat for the grinder.

The obscure planet of Azeroth was found to harbor a dizzying selection of humans, mutants, and aliens in a state of perpetual superstition and conflict. The most physically imposing of these warrior races were the so-called ‘tauren,’ an anthropomorphic bovine genotype with super-human stamina, overpowered racial combat abilities, and bizarrely well-developed horticultural skills…

Occasional cannibalism? ROFLMAO. Well check out the source itself - Starcraft 2: Tauren Marine.

I guess my prayers to the Invisible Pink Unicorn has been answered. I’m heading to San Francisco this weekend, 9AM Saturday, for one month to work closely with our client on their “core project”. What project? Beats me. No idea.

It’s been a tough time for my girl of course - she seems to be happy, and supportive, and is trying hard to bath herself in my joy of being given this opportunity in my career, but I know she’s gonna miss me once I leave from Malaysia. She had been dependent on me for many things, and while I believe that she can be independent if she wants to, I still believe she is hiding her sadder emotions from me so as not to make my journey a bittersweet one.

I’ve always scolded her for being selfish and self-centered but these two weeks she had proven me completely wrong. Her unconditional support for my long stay away from home is unexpected, because I actually thought she’s going to make a big fuss out of it. But no, she took it like a lady and cherished my joy instead of stiffling it.

I’m truly grateful for her support, and I will make sure that in these few more days I’ll be extra caring towards her, and shove my own selfishness and temper aside in thanks for her show of maturity and love. What more can I ask for?

It’s fun! Believe me! See, the opposition… opps, I mean the state government are playing it, and the BN parties are playing it too. The latter are heavyweight champions on this however, so no surprise there. You see, this morning, Sivasubramaniam, an Indian representative in the Perak state assembly tendered his resignation. Why? Because Indians didn’t get enough representation in the state exco lineup. Phhhptttttttt…

This was sensational news because this might even mean the splintering of the Perak state government, and the seats going back to BN. So obviously the Barisan Rakyat acted immediately. First Lim Guan Eng, then Khalid Ibrahim… bottomline? Get him to stay. At all cost. And predictably, the resignation is withdrew and he stayed.

But what’s the big deal in this event? Come on lar, Indian under-represented in the exco lineup? I thought DAP had moved beyond race and is promoting a Malaysian Malaysia? If race is still this important then how about the Ibans, Kadazans, and other races that exist in Malaysia? Ok, let’s move them all into the exco lineup. But opps, we only have so much seats and there are more races in Malaysia, being a multiracial country. What then?

Stop playing the racial games lar. How can the people of Malaysia be so foolish? Grow up lar.
